He was entertaining. I was thinking of doing a video on another one of those poorly thought out canards"But Atheists believe in no gods- hence Atheism is a religion"

Christians also believe in giants called nephilim which are the offspring of fallen angels and mortal women. This is where goliath and the giants that lived in Cannan in the book of Numbers come from. Most christians dismiss the absurdity of the old testament but it is the same god with the same rules.

Typical Theist Thinking: " We'll get back at them by calling them what they hate"
It makes about as much sense as calling a Klansmen a Nigger

Look, if there's no hocus pocus there can be no religion ! Atheism is just an organized system of belief ! That doesn't make us a religion ! It's not like we have meetings or anything (that they know about anyway LOL) but seriously, we really don't. Everyone knows that to be a religion first there must be some "Magic" involved, then you need to have meetings, and then you need to work out a hierarchy among believers, just because we have a set group of beliefs doesn't mean ANYTHING !

Some clansmen are what they hate, but that's besides the point. Athiesm is relying on faith just as much as any religion does. Just because you claim to need absolute proof of an all powerful deity doesn't mean you have proof of the opposite. That's what really annoys me when I meet athiests in real life. They walk around pretending they're not regular stupid human beings when that's exactly what you all are. So get over yourselves and pray to science that one day we'll figure this universe out like. And scientologists would disagree with you on whether religion requires magic.

Absolute proof is not required, just the weight of evidence. Geez, any evidence at all would be nice.

I fully admit to being just another stupid, scared, naked monkey with all the shortcomings and failings of any other.

I have never seen anyone pray to science – that's not how it works. First you have an idea, you test it, and if it works we assume it to be true until shown otherwise. Religion is almost the exact opposite – have an idea, assume it to be true in the face of evidence to the contrary until the sheer weight of evidence is overwhelming, then begrudgingly adjust your position. All the while bitching how atheists are closed minded. Whatever.

      Atheism requires faith
      Atheists are arrogant
      Atheists think they are superior

Anymore standard apologist nutbaggery you want to get of your chest

It's a well travelled quote, but calling atheism a religion is like calling bald a hair colour.

Atheists go with what is rational and can be proven. Nothing else.

People with faith believe a single source, which is incoherent in style and in teaching, which has been repeatedly disproven.

I find the 'pray to science' part particularly egregious. We don't need to pray for science to measurable change our lives, it does so in provable and repeatable ways every day. The same can certainly not be said of people who pray to a man in the sky.

Father Bob and Aronra

This week I meet with Aronra in Melbourne for the Global Atheist Convention, and thought it would be a good idea to chat up with Australia’s most popular secular humanist Catholic Father Bob for a chat.  Strap yourself in for this one.

This is a continuation of my reply to Andrew Finden’s “one last philosophical hurrah” post, and addresses the question “why believe there is a god?” It is encouraging to read the opening statement of this section where Andrew admits “that one can cannot prove that God exists”, however he quickly (and rightly) dismisses philosophical materialism…

Those who have been following this blog for a while will, no doubt, recall the various discussions/debates/arguments I have had with Andrew Finden in the past. As frustrating as I find them at times, I think he often tackles interesting and difficult topics with a calm intelligence not very often found in the religious debate. This…

Dear Mr. Swan,

Wayne Swan is currently having meeting to finalise the Australian federal budget.  In these tough economic times it is more important than ever to ensure your hard earned tax dollar is being spent in the most effective and efficient manner.  In view of this I can think of one poorly thought out federal program which,…

We have it all

Last weekend I attend the second Global Atheist Convention run by the Atheist Foundation of Australia in Melbourne. The convention attracted over 4,000 attendees to listen to extraordinary line up of world class speakers from a variety of disciplines on a wide range of topics. The convention began with a comedy line up including the brilliantly hilarious…

Poor Pell

Last Monday on Australia’s ABC television network the jet-lagged evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins squared off against Catholic Cardinal George Pell on the “Q and A” program with unimpressive results. A transcript of the entire show can be found in the ABC’s web site. The level of intellectual debate on this episode of Q and A…
